In this class, students will learn both anticlastic metalsmithing (three days of class) and forging (two days of class). Anticlastic raising employs a specialized set of stakes and hammers to move sheets of metal or strips of wire into strong, lightweight, flexible structures. Combining these techniques with the revolutionary ArgentiumTM alloy produces fantastic results. The increased malleability of Argentium sterling makes it ideal for use in anticlastic forming. The material’s ability to fuse without solder adds to its appeal. Students in this course will be forging and making handwrought Argentium jewelry, using techniques that date back centuries. Students will learn to pour ingots from scrap Argentium that are then forged into a bracelet and a ring. Copper will be available for practice pieces.
